Artificial Intelligence is one of the key technologies that can be applied to bring the factory of the future closer to reality. Expert systems, in particular, can be used to solve problems in a number of areas which are only partially solved by traditional programming techniques. These areas include diagnostics, training, planning and scheduling, process monitoring, control and simulation.AI has been used extensively within Texas Instruments to improve manufacturing productivity and quality. Some examples of these internal applications, as well as external customer programs, are used to illustrate AI's potential for the factory of the future.
