This paper presents a working theory applicable to a wide range of problems from cold starting behavior to combustion efficiency of extreme fuel loading in supercharged engines. The theory correlates cetane number with the time/temperature integral of the compression cycle and emphasizes the need for quick and complete combustion of a large amount of fuel in a geometrically limited space. This paper presents a working theory applicable to a wide range of problems from cold starting behavior to combustion efficiency of extreme fuel loading in supercharged engines.
