Power requirements in future cars will increase. Comfort, fun-to-drive and environmental issues boost the installation of more electronics and electromechanical devices. Today's power net has reached its limitations. Forty two volt systems are being discussed for the future power net and higher voltages for an alternative powertrain. Batteries with high power and good cycling performance are necessary to meet the requirements of these systems. Lithium ion batteries fulfill these requirements. Results on the cell level and on the battery level are presented.
