Mobility industry in the third world countries is fast adopting small displacement Four stroke (4-S) internal combustion engines for needs of fuel conservation and compliance to emission standards. While improvement in maintenance is lagging, complexity of 4-S engines in comparison to Two stroke (2-S) internal combustion engine and continuous growth of vehicle population, fuels the lube oil consumption. Improvement of wear joint design shall enhance the engine reliability. Enhanced product awareness will add to the cleanliness of engine oil in preventing premature bearing failures and consequent reduction in oil consumption. Investigative study on journal bearing manufacture, oil pump bearing application, field to test lab correlation and seizure bearing were carried out to characterise the lubrication oil and bearing design requirements to finer level.
