Researchers looking for high-quality surface transportation data should make the Research Data Exchange (RDE) their first stop. Sponsored by U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Program Office (JPO), the RDE hosts a number of large, comprehensive data environments that can be used to assist research in a number of transportation-related fields, including roadway safety, operations, and road weather information. The RDE is open to the public, and is free for all users. Registered users can download individual data files or groups of files. Researchers, application developers, and others are invited to visit the RDE website at www.its-rde.net to explore how they may use the available data and resources. ITS researchers are invited to recommend or submit data for potential inclusion. USDOT has developed procedures for assessing the value and quality of potential data for inclusion in the RDE.
