People choose their transportation modes for all kinds of reasons. When it comes to cycling, riding a bike is most often thought of as being good for their health and contributing to a cleaner environment. Most certainly some people choose to cycle because it's a cheaper alternative to driving. With the increase in safe and protected bike routes designed for people of all ages and abilities, more people in the City of Vancouver, BC, Canada are riding for new reasons altogether: it's often the fastest and most enjoyable way to get around. Simplicity and convenience are the new motivators influencing more cycling in our city for a wider range of people, including families with children and seniors. With people cycling for all kinds of trips, not just commuting and recreation, the results have been phenomenal. As they continue to enhance the quality of their cycling network and build a diverse and inclusive cycling-friendly culture, they expect the numbers will continue to climb.
