Johnson Space Center uses a specialized Cold Box (Space Cooler) to keep items cool for delivery to and from the International Space Station. The Space Cooler is constructed out of several vacuum panels with aerogel cores. These panels are designed and constructed into a box shape for cold stowage purposes. The Space Cooler is optionally packed with cold bricks (phase-change material) as shown in the figure. This Space Cooler needs to perform without active refrigeration (passive only).
