The random deviation of air traffic arrivals in the terminal area, the different structure of standard arrival routes and a multitude of operational procedures affect the overall planning of arrival traffic. The necessary time-balance between arrivals can be established partly by coordination between approach control and enroute controller and by flight path planning within the terminal area. The effect of the applied control procedures on arrival distributions, traffic handling, traffic sequence, and traffic density in the terminal area are analyzed for the recorded air traffic periods on August 3rd, 1979. The findings are discussed in comparison with the results of a proceeding analysis of approach traffic on August 4th, 1978.
