A previously fabricated payload designed to measure total atmospheric density by Rayleigh Backscatter of a Dye Laser in the thermosphere over the altitude range of 90 km to 160 km was launched from White Sands Missile Range on June 10, 1975. No data regarding density was received, however successful operation of the laser throughout the altitude range of interest was recorded. Lack of data has been determined to be due to improper synchronization of laser output with receiver gate time.
