Existing criteria reflected in military specifications and standards and design guides are inadequate for V/STOL aircraft. The present criteria for helicopter design and testing are those which evolved and have been used over several years for U. S. Air Force fixed-wing aircraft. The helicopter takeoff and landing environment, particularly airborne particle concentration, is markedly more severe than that for fixed-wing aircraft. This report presents data and conclusions which can be used to establish design and testing criteria for future V/STOL aircraft. (Author)
