State and community programs under the sixteen Standards of the Highway Safety Act and the jobs and functions involved provided a model for the examination of current offerings in vocational-technical education through community colleges and technical institutes. The majority of the jobs identified with the highway safety labor force require less than a baccalaureate degree. Although enrollment was reported and curriculum materials were found for a limited number of the total variety of jobs, training programs for traffic police, emergency medical ambulance technicians, and highway and traffic engineering technicians were not universally available. Additional programs and materials for alcohol testing, driver license examining, and accident investigating are required to meet the technical manpower objectives of a highway safety program.
