Pursuant to provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), 42 U.S. Code 4321 et seq, implementing Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Regulations, 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1500-1508, and 32 CFR Part 989, Environmental Impact Analysis Process, the Air Force conducted an assessment of the potential environmental consequences of numerous demolition, renovation, upgrade, and construction projects that have been programmed for future fiscal years in order to support and sustain the mission of Francis E. Warren Air Force Base (FEWAFB). FEWAFB is headquarters to the 90th Space Wing, the Air Force Space Command unit that operates FEWAFB and its associated missile field. The 90th Space Wing is responsible for missile alert facilities and launch facilities supporting Minuteman Ill missiles. Missiles are deployed in an area encompassing 12,600 square miles in the states of Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. FEWAFB occupies 5,866 acres of federally owned land on the western edge of the city of Cheyenne in southeastern Wyoming.
