Tests were carried out in the 30 x 30 sq cm supersonic wind tunnel of the DFVLR in Porz-Wahn with the aim of verifying the determination whether or not, for wind tunnel investigations concerning the determination of the effect of an underexpanded propulsive jet on the static longitudinal stability of an axisymmetric flight vehicle in supersonic flow, the jet plume of the propulsive jet can be replaced by a corresponding solid body. Cold air was used as medium for the direct simulation of the propulsive jet. It was found that for accurate investigations of this kind a solid body jet simulation is justified provided the influence of the surrounding flow on the contour of the jet plume of the cold air jet is taken into account in designing the solid body jet simulator.
