In a pilot project 120 people were interviewed in two urban areas in Oslo and Kristiansand about environmental attitudes and travel behavior. Travel mode and perception of environmental problems and attitudes towards transport policy measures are related. Car users see road traffic as less serious for the environment than people using other transport modes. They are also less positive toward measures which benefit public transport and walking and cycling. More than half of the car users can use alternative transport modes. They choose the car because it is more convenient, it saves time and they think the alternatives are bothersome. The authors do not find any relation between environmentally friendly behavior on the transport area and other areas of everday life.
