The purpose of this study was threefold: (1) to determine if it is technologically feasible to construct pavement that will last as long as 50 years without major rehabilitation; (2) to identify the research needed to make long-lived, lower-maintenance pavement a reality; and (3) to describe the benefits as well as the constraints associated with the development and use of pavement that lasts longer and requires less maintenance.
