Naval avionics development is pushing toward integration of electronic systems, notably in the areas of communications, navigation, and identification. However, present day avionics systems are wired-together conglomerates of 'black boxes.' A new concept is introduced for the total integration of all the avionics systems through time-shared functions program-controlled to suit the mission profile. The programmer communication link for these functions and the internal systems communications will be through the MINCOMS multiplexing concept. Microelectronic circuitry will be configured into a 'slabular' form. (Author)
