The report deals with the primary force input to wheeled vehicles intended to run on and off-roads, namely the cross-country tire in use on light military trucks. These tires, with tread known as 'Non-Directional Cross Country (NDCC),' have been in use since World War II and have not changed substantially since. Their off-road characteristics are relatively well known, but their dynamic properties on pavements have been studied little. Reported are data on the lateral force and camber thrust characteristics of a 7.00 x 16 NDCC tire. The data exhibit lateral force levels as a result of slip angle which are lower than might be expected for modern tires and an uncharacteristic bend in the camber thrust vs camber angle curve.
