This report presents computations and analyses of land use in the Town of Bamberg, South Carolina, and the surrounding environs comprising the Greater Bamberg Planning Area. Specific problems are discussed relating to residential, commercial, industrial, public, agricultural, and transportational land uses. Causes of problems are also discussed. Major problems relate to incompatibility of land uses. Industry is indiscriminately located in predominantly residential and commercial areas. There are few local collector streets with an uncoordinated street pattern. Congestion results from through traffic on U. S. Highways No. 301 and 78. The Southern Railroad splits the town in half. Unsuitable soil conditions limit growth potential and necessitate a complete utility system. (Author)
