The objective of this research project was to evaluate the safety performance of standard W-beam guardrails installed at the slope break point of steep roadside slopes. The guardrail system was to be evaluated according to the Test Level 3 (TL-3) safety performance criteria set forth in the NCHRP Report no. 350 (2). If necessary, a new guardrail system would then be designed and tested that could meet NCHRP Report no. 350 criteria when installed at the break point of a roadside foreslope as steep as 2:1.
