The construction of a new modern highway in the eastern portion of Morris County and the western portion of Cass County is proposed that will bypass Hughes Springs, Texas, having a total length of 5 miles. The purpose of this action is to provide a faster, safer and more efficient transportation facility. The proposed project would result in conversion of approximately 135 acres of idle rural lands into highway right of way. Minor adverse environmental effects, including a temporary increase in dust and noise, may be expected during the construction of the project. Route A will displace only four residences and no businesses. A historical marker concerning Trammels Trace would require relocation.
