The civil aviation market in Europe provides excellent opportunities for American-built products; it is an active and expanding market, and at present the largest market for American aviation products outside of the United States. The European airlines' total passenger traffic has been growing at a rate of about 13% annually and air freight at a rate of about 19%. This increase has triggered a parallel growth in airports, air freight and ground handling facilities, servicing equipment and aircraft components. Whereas the airline and airport markets are well-developed and well-serviced by European and American firms, the general aviation market is relatively undeveloped. Both markets offer good opportunities for the sale of American products whether manufactured by large, internationally-known firms or by smaller, specialized manufacturers. The Paris Air Show is an excellent showplace and marketing tool for American products in Europe. The two markets which are among the most promising in European civil aviation are air freight and general aviation. (Author)
