A study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using advanced technologies to enhance the response capability of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting crews in extremely low visibility conditions. his study has identified technology, evaluated systems, and defined requirements for equipment necessary to meet this need, the Driver's Enhanced Vision System (DEVS) - DEVS is composed of three subsystems: Night Vision, an infrared camera and monitor which enhances vision in smoke, fog, adverse weather, and darkness; navigation, a Differential OPS receiver and moving map display inside the cab; and Tracking, a digital radio datalink between the command center and the vehicles over which accident information, vehicle position reports, and other messages are sent. This document describes the constituent technologies and evaluations that were performed and defines preliminary specifications for the DFVS system.
