A characteristic of the conditions for optimality of high-speed soaring flight is that, regardless of the nature of the change in the meteorological conditions along the route, the form of their recording remains the same. The optimum procedure at each stage is determined by the characteristics of the external conditions of the present and future and is independent of the past. This makes it possible in all studies of high-speed soaring flight to proceed according to the following principle of optimality. The optimum procedure at each stage of high-speed soaring flight is independent of the natural previous history of movement. A given principle can be applied beginning with any stage. Results which were obtained provide valuable information on the process of optimization of soaring flight, which allow an approximation of each flight to the optimum. (Author)
