The F-14 Aircraft is being constructed by the Grumman Aerospace Corporation and is in the advanced development stage. The contractor is at present conducting contractor demonstration operations and the first flight with A.C. No. 1 took place on 21 December 1970. Summary of Environmental Impact and Adverse Environmental Effects: Air pollution is caused by exhaust emissions and the aircraft produces noise while in flight. Also the possibility of environmental contamination if a crash occurs is addressed. No intolerable environmental effects are foreseen and efforts are incorporated in the development program to minimize the impact. Alternatives considered is the continued use of the F-4J fighter aircraft which for defense purposes is considered an inferior weapons system to the threat proposed for the mid-70 period. (Author)
