This document consists of 12 articles that explore the impacts of real-time passenger information signs in rail stations at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority; the performance of Australian light rail and comparison with U.S. trends; rail transit networks with ring lines; a study that informs the Chicago, Illinois Transit Authority’s future rail car seating design; accommodations for the long-term growth on North America’s commuter railroads; and light rail transit planning decisions and its impact on metropolitan transit performance.This TRR also examines the European experience of light rail transit; strategic station access planning for commuter rail; case studies of park-and-ride access station choice models for cross-regional commuting; public transit catchment areas and cycle-transit users; a case study of environmental and cost-saving impacts of park-and-rides; and an international study of current and potential social media applications in unplanned passenger rail disruptions.
