The report summarizes the state-of-the-art in life cycle analysis of pavements. The basic structure of a life-cycle cost methodology is comprised of several elements: generation of numerous feasible design alternatives including overlays, initial costs, future costs including maintenance and rehabilitation costs, traffic control and safety costs, differences in initial costs of other items affected by pavement type and/or thickness, and pavement salvage value.
