The report summarizes the sighted median crossings of a moving observer. The observer while driving a continuous patrol of a nineteen mile section of Interstates 90 and 190 near Rapid City, South Dakota, recorded 103 sighted median crossings. These crossings are expanded by an unvalidated method to 1004 median crossings per million vehicles-miles of travel. Of the observed crossings, 95 percent were made by passenger cars and pickup trucks. Fifty-five percent of all crossings occurred at maintenance crossovers. (Author)
