A preliminary summary of the Workshop is provided. The motivation for the workshop resulted from the goals and objectives of the Severe Storms and Local Weather Research Program at NASA's Office of Space and Terrestrial Applications and a recent exploratory meeting on atmospheric electricity and storms which was held April 10-11, 1978, at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Alabama. The applicable goals and objectives of NASA's Severe Storms and Local Weather Research Program were used to set the primary frame of reference for this report. The text of the overview papers presented at the Workshop are to be included in the final proceedings of the Workshop.
