In April and May 2000, Helsinki University of Technology's (HUT) Ship Laboratory participated in the Phase III Ice Trials of the United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Healy. Several tests on ship's performance were conducted at this time. As part of the ice trails the trafficability report has been prepared to find connections between the ice conditions and ship performance parameters. Main features of the ice conditions included in this analysis were ice concentration, level ice thickness, ridge sail height and ridge spacing. The effects of these changing conditions have been analyzed to determine how the ship's speed and the number of rammings that occur are affected and how different power levels affect these parameters in similar ice conditions. Charts and plots of this data are contained throughout the report and are included in the appendices for further explanation of conclusions.
