Methods for the design of the systems are applied to control longitudinal motion (flight path control). For nominal flight conditions the controller design is simplified by introducing reference trajectories and optimizing over the controller coefficients. While nominal control system properties are maintained, its sensitivity with respect to plant parameter variations is reduced in a direct way by suitable readjustment of the controller structure and/or controller coefficients. Detailed simulation results illustrate the properties of the different control system designs. (Author)
