A follow-on research and development program to implement a Structural Integrity Recording System (SIRS) for the Army AH-1S helicopter was conducted by developing a computer program to reduce recorded aircraft usage data. The program, titled Fatigue Damage Assessment System (FDAS), was designed to run on the AVRADCOM computer. An improved lift-link-mounted strain sensor was also developed. The sensor was laboratory-tested and deemed ready for follow-on application testing in regard to monitoring helicopter gross weight, and take-off and landing detection. (Author)
