The oxygen consumption of the early larvae of the California spiny lobster Panulirus interruptus (Randall) and the red crab Cancer productus Randall was determined at different oxygen tensions and temperatures. From ambient to less than 0.5 mg 02/ the oxygen uptake of these larvae is dependent upon the available oxygen. Respiratory rates of larvae acclimated to 12.5, 17.4 and 24.6 C were determined at the acclimation temperatures. A substantial temperature effect was indicated for the lobster larvae. A lesser temperature effect was observed for the crab larvae. (Author)
