The danger of contamination as a result of an accident involving launch vehicles or spacecraft carrying nuclear power sources is discussed. A worst case scenario involving an accident during launch, which would turn all the plutonium into fine powder and would scatter it in the atmosphere over great distances is analyzed. A table is given listing U.S. launched spacecraft with nuclear energy sources on board.
