Crash rescue requirements for Marine Corps V/STOL expeditionary airfields have been developed based on the specific needs and the constraints of minimal logistic burden. Helicopters are determined to be essential for off-base crash rescue, but they are generally too slow to result in life-saving benefits in case of major crash fires. Helicopters are therefore not recommended for involvement with fire fighting. The overall crash rescue concepts for both on-base and off-base situations are summarized. (Author)
