The proposed project contemplates the following items; (1) construct a N/S turf runway (3600' x 120'); (2) acquire land for airport development and clear zones (126.3) acres--fee, 15 acres--easement); (3) install safety fencing (7,670'). This project is designed to provide a N/S crosswind turf runway to supplement the existing paved Runway 4/22. The airport area and clear zones are located in an unpopulated area, used only for the grazing of sheep. The proposed project will not increase the ambient noise level. While there are runway lights, most operations occur during daylight hours. The location of the airport precludes any disruption of the social or economic well-being of the community. The airport development proposed in this request will not involve the displacement and relocation of any persons residing on land required for this project. Both Lost Creek State Park and Deer Lodge National Forest are separated from the airport site by mountainous terrain and are not affected by the traffic pattern of either runway. There will be no use of public lands involved in this project. The Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife has concurred that there should be no impact on fish from the project. There are no wildlife or waterfowl refuges in the airport area. There will be no adverse increase in air or water pollution resulting from the project. There will be no adverse effect on the area's water table as a result of this project. The short-term effect on the environment from this project will be slight. The long-term effects of this project will be to provide for an adequate facility to serve the community's long-term aviation needs. The crosswind runway will allow the airport to be used a larger percentage of the time.
