The TRULS model explains the number of road casualties in Norway, by province and month, by means of a six-layer structure of econometric equations, including car ownership, road use, seat belt use, injury accidents, injury victims, and accident severity as (sets of) dependent variables. Independent variables include road infrastructure (investment and maintenance), public transportation supply, population, income, fuel prices, vehicle prices, interest level, vehicle pool composition and fuel efficiency, weather and daylight, calendar and trend effects, legislative measures, access to alcohol, and reporting routines.
