Initial tests of the boat in the ventral foil configuration were made using a high pitch (9 in x 7-1/2 in) propeller, and main foil at 5 degree angle of incidence. Ventral foil angles were adjusted using the axes of the respective tubular supports as reference. Only short and generally unsatisfactory flights could be made. A lower pitch (6 in pitch x 9 in dia.) propeller was fitted to the engine, main foil angle of incidence reduced to 3 degrees, and, using a surveyor's level, ventral foils were positioned to design angles with reference to the levelled hull and a hypothetical level surface. Subsequent tests showed the boat in this configuration to be capable of sustained, level and stable flight with the hull 10 in. to 12 in. clear of the water surface, clearing waves of about 12 in. trough to crest in an undisturbed attitude.
