This report presents the results and the methods used to determine the shock levels, and the fragility of selected critical components parts and spacecraft sub-assemblies during full scale, 823 Spacecraft, Nose-Fairing Separation Tests under simulated altitude conditions. Eight spacecraft sub-assemblies were tested. Of these eight sub-assemblies, two were monitored for transient malfunctions during the separation tests, and six to determine if permanent damage would occur. There were no indications of transient malfunctions or permanent damage to any of the eight sub-assemblies as a result of these tests. A total of 51 component parts were subjected to the separation shock. Of these component parts, five sustained physical damage of which three could be considered as potential sources of system malfunction. (Author)
