Four 1966 Ford Galaxy 4-door sedans were crashed. The steering columns were removed to provide similar seating geometry for the right and left passengers. Two 50th percentile dummies rode in the front seat and a 3-year old child dummy rode in the back. The left front passenger was restrained with a standard 4-point lap belt the upper torso restrain system, while the right front passenger was restrained with a styrofoam knee block and an inflatable restraint system (airbag). The purpose of these tests was to compare car crash results with sled test results. The comparison was poor and these tests indicate that great care must be taken in the extrapolation of sled tests to predict injury reduction potential of candidate restraint systems in automobiles.
