The responsibilities of the Air Force in space include a large and growing number of functions that contribute to the defense of the United States. Space operations are important elements of a credible deterrent to armed conflict. In the near-term, should deterrence fail, space operations will help resolve a conflict on acceptable terms to the United States by providing various kinds of information and support to military forces.
