The study reported here is part of a body of research developing the concept of Lean Logistics for the U.S. Air Force. It considers the effect of radically shortened spare-parts transportation and repair times on performance of the C-5 Galaxy airlift aircraft. Similar changes in the commercial manufacturing sector have been shown to improve supplier responsiveness and to significantly reduce inprocess inventory requirements.
