The action proposes the acquisition of limited access right-of-way, grading, interchanges, bridges and ultimate dual lane paving of approximately 7.0 miles of Route 71 from south of Maryville to north of Maryville. The project will provide a needed four lane limited access facility through or around Maryville. Environmental effects are as follows: It will result in a direct fiscal benefit to road users; It will require the reassignment of approximately 200 acres of generally rural type land to a transportation corridor; May affect up to 41 families and several farming operations; Will add to the air and noise pollution in the selected corridor; May temporarily pollute ground and water; May have some negative effect on wildlife; May provide better access to some public use areas while subjecting them to additional air and noise pollution; Will destroy some existing brush and timber lands; Will preclude the future use of the needed land for recreation, commerce and residential development; Will cause some tax loss to Nodaway County and to the local school district; Will remove traffic from the downtown area; and It may introduce truck traffic into a now residential neighborhood.
