The Ministry of Energy and the Automobile Association (AA), (Auckland) Inc. jointly agreed in 1981 to introduce a fleet management program (Fleetsave) aimed at reducing fuel consumption in light vehicle fleets. The program was demonstrated at AA Auckland's premises during February 1982. In the demonstration program, the contractor set out to establish program viability and credibility. It was agreed that the concept was based on sound, sensible and proven techniques that had been used by the AA in part for several years.
