The Helsinki University of Technology Satellite (HUTSAT) project started with the funding of the Academy of Finland and Helsinki University of Technology in January 1992. This is the first ever Finnish project concerning an orbiting satellite. The background, objectives and funding of the project are introduced. Then the subsystems of HUTSAT are described, each in its own chapter. Key design parameters are analyzed and then constraints to the other systems and payloads are discussed. The particle detector payload is presented. Product assurance (PA) aspects are discussed and HUTSAT PA principles are drawn. Finally, a short executive summary presents the key parameters of HUTSAT and its payload.
