The modern phenomena of domain convergence coupled with the rise of the PRC as a strategic competitor has made sea control a joint issue. The Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force have recognized this reality, and altered their operational concepts and force designs to articulate how they intend to contribute to the establishment, consolidation, and exploitation of sea control. This is in contrast to the Army whose newly published Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) has maritime applications, but requires additional analysis to determine the services specific maritime equities. The following examination posits that the Army will serve as the joint forces enabling service in the maritime domain due to its unique capabilities and expeditionary nature which allow it to use operational fires to facilitate maritime maneuver, protect and sustain critical nodes to consolidate gains, and employ combined arms capabilities to seize key terrain thereby translating sea control into victory.
