A creel survey was conducted on the Minnesota waters of Rainy Lake from May 13 to September 19, 1995. Except for 1991, surveys have been conducted annually since 1983 to monitor the fishery and to determine the need for changes in management. In recent years, the creel survey also has been used to evaluate a regulation that protects walleye from 17 to 25 inches in length. Angling effort was estimated for 16 strata by multiplying boat hours, determined from instantaneous boat counts made during flights, by the mean number of anglers per boat. Complete trip interviews were conducted following a non-uniform probability sampling design. Total harvest by species was calculated by multiplying angler hours by harvest rates. The estimate of angling effort on the Minnesota waters of Rainy Lake was higher during this creel survey than any of the previous thirteen.
