Progress and development of research on nickel-iron batteries used for electric vehicle propulsion are presented. The nickel plaque development effort continued toward achieving the thickness required to meet the program goals. New modules designed for high peak specific power were evaluated. Plate impregnation has been reduced to almost routine. The delivery of 1600 psi strength plaque from 3.0 to 4.0 mm in thickness is the single most important factor in the demonstration of 65 WH/Kg designs. Various additives to the electrolyte were evaluated. (ERA citation 10:048838)
