A set of five selected open loop, input response, tests were chosen to provide a basis for comparing the handling and dynamic stability characteristics of six selected small passenger cars sold during the period 1960-1967. The tests incorporated steering maneuvers, steering plus braking maneuvers, and steering maneuvers on a rough road surface. The methodology for the handling tests in the program was developed in Department of Transportation Contract FH-11-7297. The vehicles in the program were used automobiles that were brought up to and maintained at the manufacturers specifications using the original manufacturers parts and service manuals. The maneuvers were conducted with the vehicles loaded to the manufacturers specified maximum limit. The data reduction procedures used in report are described. The test results for each vehicle are portrayed graphically. (Author)
