The primary objective of the pre-development contract was to carry on the missile design in general and to initiate the detailed investigations of the major components. A full scale wind tunnel model was built and tested at design speed and Reynolds number. The purpose of the test was the check-out of the proposed control system and to measure the aerodynamic performance of the missile. The wind tunnel investigations prove that the control system as proposed for the DART missile works successfully and provides the desired aerodynamic characteristics as mandatory during the homing flight of the missile. A considerable amount of time has been spent for the analysis of the dynamic behavior of the missile. In particular the system of missile and target seeker has been studied carefully. These investigations provided the design trends to be followed by the aerodynamic design. Most of the electromechanical components of the control system have been built and tested in combination with the wind tunnel model. (Author)
