The application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to practical aerodynamic design is described. It is shown how an advanced CFD tool such as the Tranair transonic code can be used to shape airplane components, subject to structural constraints. Some aerodynamic improvements achieved on the Learjet Model 60 business jet using CFD are presented.
